Fiberglass Repair for Boats at Home in Montreal, North Shore and South Shore
Professional Hull and Gelcoat Repair
Cracks, chips, delamination, osmosis — damage to a boat’s fiberglass can look impressive, but the vast majority can be repaired invisibly and durably. We work on all types of pleasure boats to restore the hull and gelcoat to their original integrity, directly at your location or at the shop.
The Repairs We Perform
Gelcoat Cracks and Chips
Stress cracks and impacts leave unsightly marks on the hull. We clean, prepare and fill the area with the right material, then blend the colour for an invisible result.
Hull Delamination
Water infiltration and UV rays can separate the layers of fiberglass from one another. We diagnose the extent of the damage and carry out the necessary structural repair to restore a solid hull.
Osmosis Treatment
Osmosis occurs when moisture infiltrates the fiberglass and creates blisters beneath the surface. We treat the affected areas and apply Interprotect, an epoxy barrier coating that prevents water from infiltrating again.
Colour Matching
Every fiberglass repair ends with meticulous gelcoat colour matching so that the repaired area blends perfectly into the rest of the hull. The result is discreet and lasting.
Why Repair Fiberglass Without Delay
An untreated crack allows water to infiltrate the hull, the damage worsens over time
An early repair costs less than a major structural repair
An intact gelcoat protects the resale value of your boat
A repaired and colour-matched hull regains its original appearance
Our 4-Step Repair Process
Damage Diagnosis and Assessment
We inspect the affected area, evaluate the extent of the visible and structural damage, and explain what we are going to do before we start.
Surface Preparation and Sanding
The area is cleaned, sanded and prepared to ensure optimal adhesion. Proper preparation is what guarantees the durability of the repair.
Fiberglass and Resin Application
We apply the layers of fiberglass and resin suited to the type of damage, respecting drying times for a solid repair.
Gelcoat Finishing and Colour Matching
We finish with gelcoat touch-up and original colour matching. The repair becomes invisible.
Osmosis Treatment (Interprotect)
Osmosis is the formation of blisters beneath the hull caused by water infiltrating the polyester, a common problem on boats over 10 years old. Left untreated, this phenomenon progresses silently and eventually weakens the structure. The longer you wait, the more costly the treatment.
Our method : we sand the hull to eliminate the affected areas, allow it to dry thoroughly, then apply an Interprotect epoxy primer that forms a watertight and lasting barrier against infiltration. We work at home or at the shop depending on the extent of the damage.
At-Home or Shop Service
We travel directly to your marina, your dock or your parking spot in Montreal, on the North Shore and the South Shore — no need to transport your boat. For more significant repairs that require a controlled environment, we can also welcome you at the shop. Call us directly at 514-606-0708 so we can evaluate together the best option based on your damage.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can fiberglass be repaired without knowing the original colour?
Yes. We work from the existing colour on the hull to reproduce the exact shade. In the vast majority of cases, the result is invisible to the naked eye.
How much does a fiberglass repair cost?
The price depends on the extent and type of damage. We offer free quotes — send us photos by email or call us at 514-606-0708 for a quick estimate.
What is the difference between a stress crack and a structural crack?
A stress crack affects only the gelcoat on the surface, often caused by vibrations or repeated flexing. A structural crack affects the fiberglass itself and requires a more in-depth repair. We assess this during the diagnosis.
Does the boat need to be taken out of the water for a repair?
Not necessarily. Repairs above the waterline are often done on-site. For damage below the waterline or osmosis treatments, hauling out of the water is generally required.
How long does a fiberglass repair take?
A small repair (chip, light crack) is done in half a day. A more extensive repair may require several visits to respect drying times. We explain all of this during the quote.
What is osmosis and how do I know if my boat is affected?
Osmosis manifests as blisters beneath the hull, often visible after hauling out of the water. You may also detect an acidic smell, or feel that the surface is soft to the touch. If your boat is over 10 years old and has never been treated, an inspection is in order.
Do you treat osmosis on all types of boats?
Yes, we treat osmosis on the majority of fiberglass pleasure boats: motorboats, sailboats, pontoons and personal watercraft. Contact us to confirm based on your model.
Is the osmosis treatment permanent?
A treatment properly done with an epoxy primer like Interprotect offers lasting protection. Annual maintenance of the antifouling paint also helps maintain the barrier against infiltration.
